After an hour or so in the lounge tying knots and rigging chair legs, we set off for Calf Holes. Wearing our SRT gear on top of jeans, t-shirts and trainers seemed a bit odd, and I found myself wondering what I'd have thought if I'd seen two people walking to Calf Holes like that.

Nigel rigged the pitch in two different ways, initially from the P-bolts and then using some expansion bolts further back to complicate things and force him to use knots to position himself while rigging the traverse line.

We then set off on the long drive to Yordas. I like to use Yordas for rigging practice because it has 5 pitches (some of which can be adapted to make more pitches) all within the space of a few metres underground.

Nigel did an excellent job, and once he's done his homework, will be able to rig most pitches without rebelays or deviations.

Party: Nigel Steel & Damian Weare
Time: 1.5hrs at Calf Holes & 3hrs at Yordas

Many thanks Damian a most enjoyable day. Doing the homework and looking forward to underground sessions. Shame there is a rebelay in Titan :)

I just walk to the cave rather than march there. I find it much more enjoyable. I also find I save my energy for the run around the cave later with Langdon and Mason :(

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
