With just 3 of us in the end, after a hearty breakfast by masterchef Finchy we went off to do Ireby by the traditional route. Despite the rigging guide giving 35 metres as the requirement for Ding and Dong pitch and us taking one labelled as 40m it was a bit short at one end. A quick re rig and removal of non essential bits of traverse gave us enough to land on tiptoe! We could hear people were folllowing us in and Finchmeister was winding me up that they had not caught up due being in convulsions of laughter at the rigging.
Hardly any water on the pitches and we had a nice steady look around and down to the sump which they have heard lots about from Keith, here we had a warming mug of Andy's famous hot Ribena.
On the way out the voices we had heard on the first pitch had belonged to a couple who may have been laughing at the rigging, but had copied it knot for knot on every pitch including the dubious bits of rope saving economy rigging, slings and all, despite them having ooodles of string to spare! These inovative ideas (desperate measures) may be in future handbooks on SRT....

Trip time about 4.5 hours

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
