Simpsons pull through 15/05/2011

What went wrong:

· Waking up still spinning so not able to do king pot.
· Having the decent rope twisting round the pull rope while pulling it down making it hard work on the big pitch.
· Not finding the correct entrance first off.
· Not having a printer to print the topo or a bag to put it in.

What went right:

· Checking valley entrance pitch was rigged and the insitu rope was ok (no issues only very minor fraying – looks recently replaced.
· Having all the correct gear and in proper tackle sacks
· Having cling film to use to “laminate” the topo
· Having a competent partner for the trip.
· Finding a Petzl zoom head torch
· Alex not losing anything
· Finding the right cave entrance eventually
· Not going down blind pit
· Going right rather than left from final pitch to get to master cave (much easier)
· Not using a Nigel excuse to get out of caving*.

So a very good and enjoyable trip.

Party: Sam C (YSS and Hades), Alex R (YSS and BRCC)
Time 15 mins (valley entrance) 1 hour going down dead ends and getting to Simpson’s 2 ½ hours Simpson’s

*These range from the sublime to ridiculous including bringing a Pringles golfing top rather than a furry, wanting to get use of golf glove, preparing a quiz and being psychologically too large to get through.

Aye it was an enjoyable trip. I have had a look at NC and it looks like the wrong cave we spent a while in, I think was infact Simpson's Cave. If you had continued to push that crawl you would have eventually ended up in Simpson's pot, so we could have continued that way. Oh well.

P.s. You forgot Nigel's excuse of the day, Saturday in that he needed to clean the barbeque!

Had wondered about if it connected, will go for an explore when I have some free time (and informed a suitable callout).

Nigel - think thats the beginning of a newsleter article: dubious excusses to not go caving (If you every needed one).

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
