As no other YSS'ers who expressed interest could actually make the dates It was just me and my long time friend Martin.
We woke thursday morning to the sound of rain, and been in Nant Peris the customary trip to petes for breakfast and a £35 quid taxi ride we ended up on the beach at abergwengregyn by dinner time
We set off on the long slog up to the mountain formerly known as Garnedd Uchaf, the view of Aber falls was stunning and after about 5 hours we reached the summit. For the last few hours we were walking directly into the wind which didn't help our fitness and when we reached the Hut t Foel Grash we were straight in there for a break from the elements
Now you have to understand that Martin has autism, and had reservations about wild camping that he didnt choose to share but instead like a kid getting dragged around the weekly shop at the supermarket kept a good 10ft behind me ll the way up, Untill just before we completed the walk where he sprang ahead and blurted everything out in some mad rant!
At this point it was quite windy and the cloud was getting lower and I thought martin was not fit enough to tackle the rest of the route to pen yr ole wen so I decided to drop down to 600m and camp by the Melynellyn res.
This was also the first trip I have done with Just kelly kettle, I did grab a load of sticks from back at aber, and good job too or i would have to use dried horse poo!
I thought I had missed any chance to see the wild pony's by now, but as i sat watching the flames lick the top of the kelly a small group appeared on the ridge in front and steadily walked around our flank and then dissapeard. A pretty cool moment I would ave missed if we had carried on for the big 15.
The night was pretty wild, with wind and rain lashing the tent but in the morning the weather broke just enough to eat breakfast and pack away the tent in the dry, Then all that was left was a circum navigation of wales to get into capel curig for the bus getting lashed by rain all the way to the top of the Colwyd res.
Over the two days we only say three people on the hill, Even though we only managed two of the 'welsh Munroes' and got battered by the weather I got to see some of the quieter valleys in north wales that i wouldn't have otherwise planned to visit
