Present:
Ann Soulsby & Roy Rodgers

We arrived at the hut at about 9.00am but the water levels were looking atrocious! Decided against Gavel and opted for me doing some rigging practice in Marble Steps.

After a leisurely breakfast we packed the ropes and drove up to Masongill. I really enjoyed rigging once I got my head into gear and remembered how to tie a butterfly knot. I rigged the traverse and over the ledge where the awkward climb up is situated. I was just asking Roy if this could be rigged somehow and he noticed two bolts, which we had never seen before so I rigged a Y hang.

It wasn’t far to the next bit of rigging which started off with a small traverse to a Y hang. A small pitch led onto a re-belay. This was followed by another pitch with two fixed deviations. Finally a short pitch into the Lower Main Chamber unfortunately missing the bolts onto the ledge so we got a fair spraying of water.

After a short break we made our way back out – I also did the de-rigging.

Sounds like you two had a good trip , nice one Ann with the rigging. Think you would have enjoyed Gavel though as the water levels weren't too bad

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
