Been pestering alan to get a permit for a while and at fairly short notice we were on for a friday evening trip.
Brian was rounded up also and we left the school bang on the 6.30 time Alan had set, quick change and pleasant walk down to the hole which is completely different to when the dig was in full swing, the area has re established its flora well. The midges were evil so we threw ourselves into the hole rather quickly.
Despite running out of rope on the main pitch and needing some re shuffling of ropes (a theme for the Ireby trip also) we were soon in the unspoilt and rather spectacular cavern whose many delights include some amazing ceilings full of long staws.
A look at the sumps/ risings and the slopes Jason had climbed after diving through, then it was time to head out and back to the hut for cheese on toast and bottle or 2 of beer - yes the pub had shut by then!!!!
To follow were 2 more big days of caving and lots of beer.
Many Thanks to Alan for getting permits and leading a fine trip and to uncle keith for the toastie snack at 1.30am!
Those along were Alan Sp8, Brian Cullen and Stu W.
Trip time 3 hours, midge bites - still counting.
