After the first few days of carrying kit up onto the Karst and prospecting, we finaly got a chance to find our first cave. We called it Bari, as it was pointed out to us by a sheperd and the Albanian word for sheperd is....Bari.
It started out with a 55m entrance pitch which was rigged off a natural flake and 1 bolt we put in, this then dropped us onto a snow slope, this was followed through a squeeze and down to the head of a snow slope dropping away at about 70degrees with about 10" of space against the rock.
We squeezed down this 30m until we were out of rope, so after tying on another 50m the next bit can only be described as arse twitching. Dropping past the end of the snow slope we were suddenly plunged into a huge shaft, which turned out to be 81m deep with huge snow and ice formations in it.
After a lot more cold, hard work we managed to get it down to 235m a job also made a lot easier with the use of the YSS drill.

Very jealous, congrats on the discovery. At least I now know where you guys had been. Been very quite at the YSS for that last month or so.

You guys may have taken the YSS drill on its holidays, but having been to Dan's talk at Hidden Earth - the Eldon lads took a quad bike for getting to the caves, now thats caving in style!

It didn't quite get the kit up all the way, but it certainly helped.
Only time i had a lift on it was on the way back from the Orange Bar, not sure what was more scary.....the caving or Wendy's driving :woohoo:

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
