Croesor-Rhosydd
Not quite as straight forward as the YSS April trip; first we had to replace the rope on the first pitch as the in situ 9mm rope was well past its best, as was the second zip wire. In fact it had be removed completely, which necessitates a slightly awkward traverse around the flooded incline.
Finally, the fleet of vessels at the large lake had also disappeared or punctured. Our backup boat (maximum capacity 120lbs - we didn't know what that was in KG

) was found wanting, so Sam decided to retrieve the remnance of a raft that had drifted into a corner in order to fashion a composite vessel. However the transfer from one to the other didn't quite match the theory and he ended up beached on the raft with his legs in the water

. Fortunately this was enough to see him across the lake, where even more fortunately (for us

) he found the canoe (not attached to the pulley system) which made for a much more civilised crossing

. From there it was plain sailing back to Rhosydd and the very bleak mist, rain and wind combo that characterised the walk up.

Cwmorthin
Having remembered to a) take the gate code and b) located the correct GR, we did a couple of short evening trips into Cwmorthin. Only went down a few levels, but this was enough to see an impressive range of artifacts: inclines, dodgy bridges and a scary looking catwalk (which has recently been equipped with bolts and a traverse rope). The round trip beckons!
Party: Me, Sam + various Hades
(Accommodation: We stayed at the LCCC’s hut at Tanygrisiua. I would highly recommend it for a future YSS trip - it’s a great little place and is only a 2 minute walk to the car park up to the mines

)
