Another good turnout for the Sunday with 11 of us turning up at Rowter Farm to get kitted up for our next trip, it certainly put a smile on the farmers face when I gave him £22.00 trespass fee
After Kitting up in the snow :( we made our way over to the entrance shaft and after putting in a Rope we were soon on our way and leaving the bad weater behind us :)
Steady going across the Cartgate with people admiring the view :woohoo: along the way, then we arrived at Bitch Pitch and once down this we made our way through the workshop to descend the first half of Leviathon via the alternative route. Then it was round the back of the dam into the Tea Rooms to descend the second half.
With all eleven of us at the bottom we retraced saturdays steps as for as the Bung, we then carried on along the canal after unlocking the gate. When we were all through and with the gate relocked we set off up the canal to reach the Bottomless Pit, after waiting several minutes for the boat to drop off and collect some tourists we then set off on the long walk out behind it in waist deep freezing cold water :woohoo:
From the end off the canal it was the long climb up the steps to make our exit, then the walk back to the Chapel for a shower and Tea :)
All that was left then was a trip back up to JH to retrieve the entrance rope and lock up the lid.
Trip time 3hrs
Susan Blackburn, Samantha Mason, Julie Butcher, Alex Wallman, Pete James, Paul Horner, Brian Cullen, Stu Weston, Paul Geddes, Jim Gleave, Keith Mason

A great follow up trip from Titan.
although stood (more like dancing) on a frosty breezy hill top in damp clothes was a little uncomfortable :S .
It was agreed that Brian follow me down and offer me assistance, he quickly realised this wasn't nessesary as I abseiled , rebelayed and deviated my way down the pitches below him, trying to catch as much as I could of Keiths mini history lessons .
I think its safe to say that I enjoyed it more than Titan in terms of putting all my developing skills into action.
The look on the tourists faces were a picture as we emerged from the canal, and following the boat out was fun but tireing.
All in all a great weekend . Thanx to all involved and an extra thanx to Stu w for the use of his spare furry suit ;).

PS, Big respect to the miners who worked down there all those years ago with the most basic equipment.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
