A brave band set off up that god awful hill on Saturday morning with our only comfort being that we couldn't see more than about 15 meters ahead so we didn't have the pain of seeing how high the hilltop actually was. Despite the mist we arrived at the cave WITHOUT getting lost... which considering myself and Alex spent an hour looking for the cave in perfect visibility I was pretty happy about.
There was quite a bit of water in the cave and we all got fairly drenched on the third pitch (the second half of the 45 meter pitch) and I didn't help matters here because I missed the second deviation. Fortunately Alex spotted it on the way down and Stuart managed to rig it after a real soaking so going back up was a touch dryer.
Got down to the ramp/sloped pitch where you rig of a rock at the top and I went half way down it (after almost losing the bag down the pitch I might add). It was like a car wash half way down and Stuart took one look from the top and announced he wasn't coming down - so we started back up and foolishly I volunteered to derig.
It wouldn't have been so bad but somebody (who shall remain nameless) got stuck at a derviation and myself and Stuart almost froze at the bottom of one of the pitches waiting. On a completly seperate note Nigel didn't get hung up at any rebelays this time!
Meet some Manchester cavers on the way out and the as we headed down the hill the mist cleared so finding the cars was really easy. I even jogged down part of the hill! The best part of the trip had to be the chip butties in Bernies - Susan was so impressed she just wouldn't stop talking about them and Nigel made another mortal enemy (making his tally for the weekend 3 I think)!
