Brilliant trip and one that should be done by all members. Set off for Mossdale at 2100hrs, dressed in bright yellow meanders, lamps on to light the way and a ghetto blaster perched on shoulder for entertainment on the long hike, the Northern lights were dancing beautifully in the heavens as i reached Mossdale scar and stubbed the spliff out on my chums helmet. Very small stream sank into Mossdale the drown and glorys were full of water and one had to hold breathe for a couple of minutes before entering the water and struggling through, to get a real sence of what it was like in Leakey's day. Kneewrecker was not too bad but got to the end of this section and realised we had taken a wrong turn. Had to go back and turned into the marathon series. it wasnt until we reached Leakey's marathon that i realised i had lost a welly, a glove and half of my sanity. did the round trip of far marathon east to make the trip that 'bit more, complete'. Couldnt remember if the connection was in High level mud caverns south or stream end cave so tried one (without success) and then the other. Small and very short squeeze to the left of the mud pile in mud caverns led to the large connection chamber in langcliffe, one of the chums grieved about the length of time that it had taken us to get to this point (bet you can all guess who that was

) but sure enough he was correct we had been underground for two and a half hours

. All we had to do now was continue the slow trudge out of Langcliffe. Unfortunately we got to the pitch at Nemisis and realised we had forgotten to rig it. Only one course of action to take we had to free climb the 50 ft pitch. My light had packed in so i had to climb in darkness which touched the nerves a little. A good old stomp down langstrothdale chase we decided set up a stop watch and race one another in relays through kilnsey boulder crawl, just so we could get out of the cave in time for a pint, this caused us to miss the left junction at Hammerdale dub and so we had to back track and race up the uncomfortable stagger passage to the entrance pitch and out onto the fell above the welcoming farm. We had missed the pub as the race out of Langcliffe had taken three hours so we decided to light a roaring fire on the fell side, skinned, cooked and ate a couple of rabbits before we headed home
