Paul is a new member and had arranged with me that he would come up for some caving on the Saturday. This was to be a follow on from the Try Caving weekend a few weeks ago when we had had fairly high water conditions and had been restricted to Thistle and Runscar.

Unfortunately Saturday dawned very wet indeed - there had been large amounts of rain during the night which had fallen onto melting snow.

It looked like we were going to have another very wet day's caving, so I suggested to Paul that he might like to take the opportunity to learn SRT. He was happy, so we spent the first hour sat in the lounge doing some theory (and drinking coffee!)

We then popped down Bull Pot of the Witches and spent a few hours with Paul trying out various manoeuvres and Rich and Emma doing a bit of rigging and self-rescue practice.

A pleasant and fairly useful wet day!

Party: Paul Tonge, Richard Rae, Emma Beecroft & Damian Weare Time: ~3hrs

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
