Ok so this is my first trip report ever.. so apologies in advance for any spelling mistakes and bad grammar…
This bank holiday weekend I was lucky enough to be invited into the Craven camp by my friend William “Steve” Helm and join the GG winch meet. I have never been to Gaping Gill before so I was really excited to finally get chance to see it.
Due to heavy rainfall overnight our original plan to do Stream passage was quashed so Me, Steve (CPC), Rowan Scott (CPC) and Ian Ball set off down Wades instead. We set off down the entrance and through to the SE passage. This was good fun and much needed practice for deviations and rebelays for me. We then took a right at T Junction which took us into the main chamber, at the sight of this I was absolutely blown away by the sheer size and the wildness of the water crashing down and proceeded to run about like a nutjob with my new camera trying to get the perfect shot. After a while of doing this I was eventually dragged away by Steve and our trip commenced continuing back past SE pot and Bar Pot to South of New Henslers Crawl. This crawl was fine if a little tight in spots, it was here that we headed toward Henslers master cave and reached the ladder towards the blowhole. Me and Steve then went down the Blowhole while, Rowan and Ian waited behind. We stopped to go and have a look at the sump and eat a chocolate bar and then headed back out retracing our steps to Bar pot where after a knackering prussik up we exited the cave. Ian went out via Flood and we met up again at the camp to a nice pot of tea
I thoroughly enjoyed this trip including the camping and caving combo and trying to get poached by the Craven haha! but most of all many thanks to IB for being my sherpa and carrying my rediculous holdall back to the car , I honestly don't know how i'd have got back with all my caving/camping gear if you hadn't been there to help me. Much appreciated!!!
