As the weather was still OK we decided on doing Meregill, although we did have to do the Aven entrance as the Mere was sumped off :woohoo:
Was a fair amount of water about, just enough to make it a nice sporting trip  . Got down to the bottom OK , although a couple of the pitches were a tad damp. We then went for a bit of a bimble down the streamway before turning round and making our way back out.
Trip time 6hr15
Ruth Smith, Ales Hrabec, Colum Walsh, Keith Mason

Good look, i'm sure it will be an excellent read :)[/quote] I'm struggling as the surveys I have found aren't very descriptive... the pitches and passages don't have names... is that true or am i just looking in the wrong place?? I am new to this game

In most caves pitches end up just being numbered, rather than having names. This is the case for Meregill, apart from the one you entered by which is called Aven Entrance Pitch.

As Roy Walker says 'just write what you see' i.e. from your point of view.

The cave techies will already know the names of everything.

It's great that you are prepared to have a go (at anything).

Does n't matter if it's long short or whatever.......... there's no rules as far as I know(?)

Surveys? - you might find it easier to look at previous trip reports?
Good luck

Think you lot were brave doing Meregill on Sat. seem to think it took 4 goes for us to feel the weather was right last time we did it. Love that cave too. Last time with Keith and Alex was it also Column and Sharon?

Sounds an excellent trip Meregill, never done it so have asked Alex to put it into next years meets list, might gat a chance to do it. Have you listened to the cave audio about the burning of the rubbish in a side passage down Meregill, sounds like fun.

Thats the one, i wonder if Keith and his team notice 'the torrent', thought it would be nice to have a planned meet to Meregill, instead of a spontaneous meet. Something to look forward to, although the weather can be a major player. At the hut on Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th Sept. By the way can you sort me out a big blow up of the OS area around Pikedaw. It is on the 1:50 000 scale SD 8764, the area covered by the 8 squares around that grid ref and a similar blow up on the 1:25 000 scale :)

It looks good to me although it would be better if it was moved a grid square to the East, that is the area to the right of Kirby fell and not including the area to the West of Rye Loaf.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
