If you look to the right whilst on the path near Dismal hill you will see the entrance pitch into Dismal hill (complete with lid). This bypasses the entrance squeezes, a 10-15m rope does the trick.

Ian - i know you like useless bits of info - so ... micks end was named after my brother in law - strangley called Mick! and if you look on the floor at that point there is a large boulder which fell out of the roof on to his leg in 19 nought blob . he then had to be extracated from it by his companions and without CRO . his leg was black from toes to knee for several weeks but amazingly he did not break anything.

Those in the party that day were Mick Durham ( the victim ) Alan Speight, Mike Burrow and Howard Crabtree of ( ULSA ) - This was a supposed short trip before the four of us went to the CNCC agm that was being held in the Ingleborough Hotel ( now the nursing home opposite Bernie’s ).
Now I was above the boulder when it dropped ( so my fault ) Howard was in the crawl and Mck Burrow was sat well away from the boulder ( he had said it was loose and would drop on someone some day ).
I managed to lift the boulder and Mick Burrow dragged him out -Mick Durham’s welly was left behind under the rock
.Initial examination showed that Mick was in shock but nothing appeared to be crushed. Howard who had more experience in rescues then assessed the situation, Mick Durham was a BIG lad, (18 stone ) he would be difficult to transport on a stretcher – it would be at least an hour before any rescue team arrived so the master plan – Mick would not move out of the cave and was moaning with the pain and shock. So Howard kicked Mick hard and said get up you big fat Bas****.more kicking got Mick to his feet. And I was sent out to get my Morris 1000 traveller to the entrance and by the time I got the car to Old Ing Entrance Mick Durham had been kick out of the cave by Howard Crabtree & Mick Burrow.
We then all drove to Airedale hospital casualty department in caving gear ( wetsuits the fashion at that time ) Mick was x-rayed and examined with nothing worse than a bit of bruising.
So that was Mick’s End and we missed the CNCC meeting.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
