Sell Gill not so dry route
After a hearty breakfast at the school we decided to do sell gill as the weather was a little bit wet , so we got all the ropes sorted and set off for a quick trip to the bottom and back .
Once kitted up in the lay bye we set off for the walk up the hill, on the way we came across a poor sheep that had its head stuck in the fence so me and Pete set about freeing the poor animal, seeing Pete behind the sheep holding it made me laugh he looked very comfortable at the rear of the poor animal, it was soon free and running of up the hill
Once we arrived at sell gill I started to rig the first pitch, there was a bit of water was poring of the path and down this pitch but not enoth to worry about, soon I had rigged along and ready to set off to the bottom, as I was half way down and in the full flow of water I felt a knot in my hand, OH DEAR I thought this isn’t right it seems the rope isn't as long as I thought so it was a quick change over and back up I went, by this point I was soaked and very cold. After a quick re rigging I was soon down at the bottom of the pitch. It was at this time another party arrived at the bottom of the pitch and they were amazed to see water poring down the pitch as there wasn't any when they went down two hours earlier they also said the third pitch was a bit sporting on the way out. So I went back up the pitch getting wet again for a chat with the rest of the group, it was then we made the choice not to go to the bottom and sack the trip off as we didn't want to come back after an hour of caving and find we could not get back up the pitch, Pete and James went for a play on the first pitch ( so they could get wet aswell ) and to de-rig it once the other party had left just so they could say they had been caving
We all ended up so wet we jumped in the cars and got changed back at the school
