We did the usual tourist route through Simpson Pot. Water levels were low so we had a reasonably dry trip until the blasted hole which I had trouble finding! Panic over we soon found ourselves at the slit which Susan easily slid through. I was not able to get through the slit so climbed up the ropes at the side and was pleasantly surprised by a large ledge with a stone banister that I could look over a see a clear drop to the bottom of the pitch. I decided that rather than swap onto the rope at the slit I would descend all the way from where I was in one go. There was a choice of fixed hangers so Paul removed the 50 from the slit and I used that to rig a pull through with the spare 55 that we had with us. I wasn’t sure if the extra height would leave me short had I used only one rope. Paul and I descended with no problems and it was a nicer hang than the slit route. I pulled the rope down and was able to confirm that the 55 on its own would have been long enough. A nice easy trip for a Saturday.

Did you pre-rig the Roof Tunnel in KMC?

We've used 2x24m ropes tied together on slit pot, though was a right pig to pull down using the bolts across the gap, meant to use the bolts on the same wall I think  post from ukc

Simpsons survey + topo ?? Ukc Thread

I did a trip there last November and we got our rope hideously stuck when trying to pull through Slit Pot. After half an hour bouncing around trying to retrieve it we were about to give up when another party arrived above and retrieved it for us (thanks if you're reading this).
Apparently the trick is to us the two p-hangers which are both on the same wall of the slit.

Great photos on facebook.

Nigel rigged the exit for us but didn't really need to as there was a fixed rope already there.

The two photos on FB were just a practice, Susan will add more soon.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
