Did feel strange being in the Dales on a Saturday and not being underground

but this time we were there to do the 3 Peaks walk.
As it turned out it was also the day of the 3 Peaks race, so after parking up in Horton and donning the walking boots we set of from the car park at 7.30 heading for the first hill, Penyghent.
Plenty of walkers already about and as we climbed our way to the summit we were greeted with a little flurry of snow, as we started down the other side heading towards Whernside we opted to take the boggy route

did raise a few smiles as several people were sinking upto their knees in places. After the long slog to reach the Ribblehead Viaduct we stopped for a well earned cup of coffee before setting off to start our ascent of Whernside, it was also at this point that some of the first runners started to come through and still looking quite fit at this point. Although the runners peel off and take a different route we carried on along the well worn path up to the summit, it was here that we decided to stop for our lunch and to watch some of the runners coming straight up the side of the hill.....Respect!
Once fed and watered we set of down from the summit heading towards our last obstacle of the day, Ingleborough, stopping for another cuppa just before crossing the Chapel le Dale Road to start our last climb of the day. After a few photos at the summit we started back down on the last leg, the long slog back to Horton.
