Our ambitious plans are a bit smoothened...and I have to say: fortunately. My body is aching after yesterdays epic trip (to be written by supercaver 2013). Three of us haven't done Rift Pot yet so Keith is happy to bring us there. Cave is already rigged so everything is much easier and sounds rather like a Sunday trip.

Despite 10% precipitation probabilty weather forecast is a bit drizzling. We descend down the steep shakehole towards the entrance and one by one disapper inside the rift. I don't really like the entrance, it's quite dangerous with a lot of loosen boulders. To make the trip more interesting, Gordon left his descender in the car. We share it on the first pitch...and the rest is about Keith's enjoyment of italian hitch (dear heavens, I wouldn't do the last pitch like that...). We follow the strenuous entrance crawls and constrictions until the head of the 2nd and 3rd pitch. The last one is quite spectacular...I'm suprised by the chamber immenseness. We take our harnesses of and we explore the bottom of the cave. It's nicely decorated...but what is really lovely, it's the size. At the end Keith shows us the two passages towards Large Rift. My temtation is too high, so me and Keith start heading towards the dry route and Julie and Gordon are going to enjoy the bottom of the cave. The crawl is very very muddy and quite long. After several minutes of sighing we pop out on the bottom of the Colossom (?) pitch. On the way back I feel like that the 'wet option' might be easier. I follow Keith and soon we meet up beyond the duck. I found it quite ok, even if it was about ten meters long...water was suspiciously warm :) The small bottom round trip is looped.

On the way back I take advantage of the position of rope hanging on top of the ''hill'' and swing over the ''whole'' chamber (and hit Keith which is prusiking on the second rope). The way up is fairly steady and soon we meet back on the surface. ...followed by traditional cheessy chips :) Nice lovely jubbely Sunday trip!

Nice one Ales, I can honestly say I wasn't responsible for the warm water in the duck

With such a short walk back to the car, I think I'd have gone and got my descender rather than use an Italian hitch!

Apart from putting a little wear groove in Gordon's krab its was fairly easy getting past the rebelays and devi's, and also a very smooth descent :)

Thanks a lot for the roundtrip on the bottom Keith. Now I only have to come via the Large Rift entrance

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
