The day starts more than early on Sunday morning since people want to skip the 6 hours queue for the winch down to Gaping Gill. The situation is a bit chaotic, so seeing Nigel's enthusiasm to get up earlier and to join Richard and Keith, I rather go for the option to get up and get ready in ten minutes. Richard's words promising me that I can get a breakfast from BPC in the beer tent are encouraging.

It's a wonderful sunny day, so we fit our yellow oversuits to tacklebags and start the early walk. Despite the early start, there is a queue before nine o'clock. I wouldn't be much bothered with that as much as with the missing food service! Ooopsy Daisy, it looks like I have to go caving without any breakfast. Carol's cup of tea made from the Gaping Gill water and Richard's dried bananas have to be enough. The option of the day is to go down Corky's pot since Richard wanted to see the beauties of this entrance. The entrance is a few meters behind the improvized BPC toilets. I just hope that it doesn't leak

Keith goes down as first and starts crawling towards the first pitch. The vertical crawling passages are begun. Everything is pretty small until the last Vindication 40m pitch which is truely spectacular compare to the other stuff. Keith looks like a dwarf sitting miles away in the Mud hall below me. I've never been to this part of GG...requires more than my small Petzl lamp :) In a few minutes we are in the main chamber which is very different to that what I've seen last time since it's all nicely lit up. I can hardly recognize all the features... We spend here about 1/2 an hour and the we can set off towards Sand Caverns and Stream Pot. This is quite a nice entrance, one of the most favourite one, composed of vertical caving and cheeky deviations. All goes steadily until the very last 3 meters pitch. Some responsible caver decided to bring NOVICES to Gaping Gill via this way. Me and Keith spent several dozen of minutes waiting for them to go down the first pitch. I have no idea how they could get down to the bottom. I suppose this didn't happen...

Once outside the cave, we were kissed by wonderful sunshine day again. What a splendid day out!

Party: Keith M, Richard R, Ales H
Trip Time: 4 hrs (?)

Yet again another good trip report Ales, think Rich timed it just right for getting out before the novices decided to hold us up for 50 minutes :(
As you said its not the best place to take novices, bet they had a long day

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
