since I gave up caving I have retained an interest in the sport. In my collection of information I found an early survey (which I helped with) of P8 at Perryfoot. My discovery brought back memories of the old entrance . As many members may know of this how many have entered the system by this way? The day we descended the area of the new entrance had a swirling vortex but we carried on. Talking to another friend it was the day when he was swept away by the flood. he went down Idiots leap head first, I must add not by choice and was swept further along towards the thirty foot pitch. This was shortly before the placement of ubiquitous bolts and manky pitons. At this point we turned round and had a hairy hour getting back to the surface and remembering to cross off the cave in bad weather. I think the old entrance is still accessible, does anyone know if this is true?

Sorry Rob, I've bnot been there myself, but on a TSG trip from 2009 they wrote about it being open but tight?

We were somewhat surprised to find the water levels had not risen significantly so the ?normal? entrance was very easily passable. Alan was dispensed down this and sent off to rig whilst the remainder of the party headed in through the old entrance. Glyn declared it tight and suggested that John went in the usual route. Elaine followed Glyn and ended up reversing out as, whilst the snugness was acceptable, doing the crawl in total darkness was not as her lamp helpfully went out each time the contacts were squashed.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
