Decided to give Gary a break from SRT this week and opted for a trip into Carlswalk, the idea then being to take him and show him the connection into Flower Pot. From there we going to make our way through and out of Merlin's, all was going well as we squeezed through into the chamber to reach the connection. As I squeezed into the connection it became clear there had been a collapse, after trying to clear it with my feet we decided to give it up as a bad job. So we then ended up free climbing out of the Shaft Entrance, once on the surface we did nip into Merlins for a quick look so Gary could see where he would have come out.
Trip time 2hrs15
Gary Bertola, Lee Langdon, Keith Mason

Wow! Is that something the DCA people would like to hear about to put in a newsletter or website?

Carlswark /Merlins sounds interesting. As I am now unable to go for a look I would appreciate a survey. As an added note one of my brothers was trying to establish the connection years ago. Also I was on the recovery of Shag's body from what I knew as a sump

Very interesting Rob, this is not the original connection though as that was blocked off years ago as considered too dangerous :woohoo:

that would be due to the unstable roof. I shall go to the outdoor shop in the Hope valley and see it I can pick up a map of the area. A lot has been discovered of late despite years of futile digging and stumbling through bushes in Eyam dale

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
