Friendless once again I set off to have a search for the Mousehole duck in between Large Pot and New Rift.

I met the early A-Team on their way out, looking happy to be in the cars and no one seemed interested in a second trip.

I set off up the hill and headed to the big shakehole, made hard work of everything, the climb, crawl, squeeze, pitch, traverse and deviation before setting off for the Crystal Inlet Susan told me about last time.
More bad photos taken I went through the bypass following the description detailed by the digging team on UkC. Dropping the small climb (with the in the way rope) then reailised I was lost and tired. If I'd found the mousehole I might have been tempted to go for it, rather than the 75m to go through the bypass, but I didn't find it, so off back through the passages and into the Rift Pot end before an even slower crawl out.

It's still all digger rigged in case anyone fancies it.

Agreed! and glad you reminded me.

I asked Beardy of the digging team down there, about the ropes for permission to use and along with the usual check it first approach regarding any fixed aid, he said be wary of them, one of the ropes on the lower pitches was already there when they started digging down there, which from the Descent article could have been in 2011!
He neglected to mention which one though.

Not that that stopped me using them ;-)

Nice one dude, at this rate you will soon be in Large Pot :woohoo:
If you tried to plan all your GG trips around the winch meet then rope wouldn't be a problem either ;)

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
