As a prediction of a nice weekend, 4 keen cavers decided to go caving on Friday evening. Although Keith was rather keen on solo caving...

Me, Stuart and Shezi managed to find the Eldon lane pretty quickly and after a hard winter this was a proper Grade 1 changing followed by a very pleasant walk to the cave. By that point I already regretted that I brought my yellow oversuit. All we've found was just a hanging rope down the big shaft and one by one disappeared on the rope. Keith was meat on the way out, so we had a great opportunity to pass him on one of the rebalays. Since it was Stuart's 23rd birthday just last week, we managed to set up a secret celebration for him, so when he turned up in the main chamber, it was already lit up by a tiny candle light from his birthday muffins :)

All this was followed by a detour to Damocles rift which was surprisingly very nice and appreciated. After this we just made our steady way out, still do a daylight and very nice warm evening.

One more thanks to Keith for rigging the cave!

Trip time: 2:30 (Keith's time was too short to be estimated)
Party: Keith, Shezi, Ales & Stuart

Many thanks to Ales and Shezi for the birthday surprise, I was quite touched by the sight of the candles in the main chamber.
Lovely glass of wine to wash down the muffin too.

Oof! That deviation Shezi is at looks a tester!

I've been trying to remember which route this is, I've only been down the Southern route, I'm going to guess at the East Wall route?

Sorry I missed the birthday party, but I wanted an early start to get to the pub for food :)
Yes Ian it is the East Wall, which is the probably the quickest way to the bottom.....bar jumping
Well spotted Anthony ;)

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
