It's 7 pm and we leave the YSS hut. The aim of the Friday evening mission is Snatcher pot. A pothole which I had already chance to visit this year but since it's on Rich's to do list and it's close to the hut, we opt for it. We slightly struggle to find a parking spot but once we did, we are soon at the entrance. It's proximity to the stream requires care and this time a small trickle flows into the entrance...

We find the cave in much wetter conditions than last time. We have to crawl in the water and we need to cross a few waterfalls. But this is just enough to make it a good refreshing trip. Without much struggle we move forward until the big pitch where we struggle to find a nice bolt to avoid the waterfall. All I remember is that we did this in a dodgy way last time, but that time the water level was much lower. After a longer time we finally find a solution, which is basically climbing to the roof of the chamber where is a permanent hanger and a hole for a spit. Much easier. Soon we meet at the final sump where we turn around and make our way out. Just on time for a beer & whiskey with Nigel at HB.

Time: 3 hrs
Party: Ales & Rich

The wishey didn't make the morning much easier. But the promise of a nice weather is motivating enough so at 9:30 we set off for a off-road loop around Whernside.

YSS -->Ribblehead --> Kingsdale Head --> Yordas cave --> Turbary road --> Marble Steps parking --> Kingsdale road --> Twisleton Scars --> Ribblehead --> YSS.

The weather was just increadible. Combination of the mist, sun and hills made it a perfect day. Possibly one of the best things I've done in Yorkshire dales. Great way to discover the Dales and to connect all the caving valleys together.

Trip time: 6hrs

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
