Simpson Pot
I seemed to have lost my caving mojo a little of late so, although I brought my caving kit to Yorkshire I also brought my Big Bumper Edition of Reasons to Not Go Caving Volume 3. Susan was keen to do a Simpson pull through and particularly wanted to have a look at the balcony alternative to the slit at Slit Pot. I used the excuse that two on the trip would not be safe. However Martin and Jo wanted to do the pull through and Julie added her name to the list so the trip was on. I was unable to find the entrance but Susan did and we set off down. Martin and I took turns rigging. We didn't fall for the trick that is Bob’s Pit and Martin put a traverse line on it to allow us to pass safely over. We alternated the rigging and it fell to Martin to brave the ropes of unknown history to rig The Balcony at Slit Pot. We all enjoyed the spectacular free hanging pitch. Martin admitted to a moment of discomfort when he came to what he thought was a sump but was relieved when he looked back and spotted the duck that is the way on. The rest of the trip was uneventful. We met up with Anthony at the Valley Entrance pitch and photographs were taken. It was a very pleasant trip with good company and I promised myself that I would do more caving.

Dramatis personae; Alex, Susan, Martin, Jo, Julie

Time; Just long enough to ensure that we missed the AGM

After a long time, a busy weekend for the YSS! The Balcony alternative sounds good, a good reason to come back to Simpson :)

It was a really good trip, thanks to all involved and thanks for rigging Alex. I did have a moment there when i saw what looked like a sump instead of a duck!!
Good trip thanks all

I would recommend a in and out trip using the great aven. It's a cracking trip, and in my opinion a more fun and safer way of doing it. With a draw back of having to walk back down the hill.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
