After deciding that it was too wet for Marble Pot (and that it sounded horrible) an alternative trip down Lancaster hole in Easegill was arranged on Friday night and I packed the bags. However during the evening I got talking to some of the UL cavers who were staying in the hut and the upshot was that I took them into County, to a a circuit out Wretched, while the "real" YSS trip went into Lancaster.

Cillian, the UL group leader, was a little unsure of how far the group would want to go so we left the pitch in county rigged as a an escape route. the trip to poetic justice was relatively uneventful apart from one of the group getting a facefull of water climbing down into spout hall.

Getting up poetic justice proved difficult so I rigged a rope for them and mercifully we found the next pitch pre-rigged so we were sound down and in Eureka Junction. From there we headed into Stop Pot and had a quick rest. We talked to another party from NPC while there and, being cheeky, I asked them if they could derig our rope on the way out of county - always thinking ahead! After a break I wanted to show them some of the big stuff so I took them as far as Monster. Some of the party struggled with the climbs between Stop and Mainline Terminus so by the end of it I felt like a foot stool although the welly shaped bruises I was expecting haven't come through! ;)

Once back in Stop pot we went through the crawl that drops into Wretched Rabbit and started progressing out. Some of the girls, being thinner, definitely seemed to find that passage easier and the energy levels were dropping at that point. We eventually reached the climbs which took a while as I climbed up each one and then rigged a rope for the others.

There was some very happy people when we emerged on the surface into lovely sunshine. I was also very happy to find the rope at the entrance of county meaning I didn't have to go to the pitch head! :cheer:

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
