Taking advantage of the good weather decided to have a walk up Blencathra. Stu, Nige and Ruth met at the A59/A1 junction and continued to Scales on the 66 where we met Brian, who was early :) . Set off up Blencathra via Sharpes edge but took a detour on the way so Brian could bag another 'Wainwright'. Back on track soon got to the 'edge'. A pleasant climb up this exposed ridge and soon made the summit for lunch. The sun was shining bright and the weather made for excellent summit views, the Meadow Pipits and Skylarks were in full song and we noticed a Buzzard using the thermals high above us. We carried on towards Skiddaw, bagged another 'Wainwright' and headed back to Scales where we enjoyed a lovely pint before heading home for tea. A grand day out :)
Time taken 4 hours
cast of walkers; Stu Weston, Ruth Smith, Brian Cullen, Nige Steel

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
