Phil & Paul went down Dihedral and found our way, without any caving deviations this time, to Stream Passage Pot.

We returned to base camp, drank a cup of warmish, whiteish liquid that the CPC claimed was tea and then heard ourselves saying ‘shall we do Rat Hole next’.

Rat Hole was definitely the highlight of the day starting with a fairly long tight flat out tube (the rat hole) which leads to spectacular traverses above bottomless pits followed by huge abseils with deviations taking you around spectacular hanging flakes.  This time we exited through to Bar Pot SE Aven making it the fifth new entrance into GG that both Phil and I had done in the last few days.

Meanwhile Dave, who had soloed Christmas Pot a couple of days earlier fancied a slightly easier day so his first trip was down Bar Por SE Aven and back up Bar.  His second trip was down Wades to look for where OBJ joins Flood but unfortunately it didn’t join on this particular day.

Team:  Dave Ramsden, Phil Hawcroft, Paul Magson.

OBJ Hole, aah memories!

Dihedral and Rat Hole in the same day! Excellent.

How did you get out the ground after coming up SE Avenue? Bar, Small Mammal or Stile.

Stile is worth it in my opinion though I am too weak to get out alone.

We came out of Bar.

I'd never heard of Stile Pot until you mentioned it, although I think me and Lukasz once started climbing up it when we were trying to find our way from Small Mammal to Bar.

They had just started de-rigging something that leads from Small Mammal crawl down towards the bedding plane above Bar main pitch (can't remember it's name) but we misunderstood and thought they were de-rigging Small Mammal so we came out of Bar.

That is likely to be Flowstone Chamber pitch.

This is a good read.

Hi, it was a great day, I fancy exploring some of the Henslers passages/crawls next.

And paul mentioned about a good YouTube video showing Disappointment pot, I really want to do that now after watching.

Yep that was it ( Flowstone Chamber ) I will have a read of the article now.

Thanks Phil.

Hi Phil, I like Diss,

My favourite trip though is Hensler's Pot. I've not managed to get through it yet because I am scared of narrrow bits.

NFTFH has brilliant GG trips in it.

Came upon your report of OBJ by chance. Good reading but sounds more than a little awkward in places. Was supposed to be rigging it with a YSS/CPC clubmate this GG meet. Mercifully, he was "otherwise engaged" but will definitely not forget it. Your report was exemplary and left nothing out. Next time....can't ever claim I didn't know what I was letting myself in for!

Honestly Dave, OBJ is not a difficult place to visit, I made a mountain out of a molehill. Early 2015 was a rough time, I was not enjoying caving and that manifested in a really low tolerance to hardship, as soon as it got difficult I just gave up. I have to say for a cave about 10m long I wrote about it a lot.

Did you read the newsletter article or the forum post? The newsletter article has a few photos of the rigging, not that I'm a perfect rigger but finding the spits can be a little tricky so it gives you a hint where they are.
(Probably been P bolted by now.)

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
